History



Key dates in our history:

1995

  • TAO Commodity Trader, Inc. was established as a molasses trading company. Today, TAO Commodity is the largest high quality molasses trader in the Philippines owning 35% of the local trading market.

1999

  • Alcohol trading was added to the commodity trading business.

2000

  • TAO, with other investors, acquired an alcohol distillery in Ormoc City, Philippines.

2001

  • TAO diversified into fuels trading with Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation as its principal supplier, and is now one of the largest independent distributors of Pilipinas Shell in the country.

2002

  • Megavia Corporation was established and became the exclusive distributor of Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Incorporated products in North National Capital Region, Bulacan and Negros.

2003

  • TAO Corporation, as a holding company, was organized to consolidate all businesses owned by its founder.
  • The Procter and Gamble distribution business group, which was established in 1993, became part of TAO Corporation.
  • Megavia Corporation started its Philip Morris distribution in Northern Metro Manila and Negros as franchise areas.

2004

  • Southbay Bulk Terminal, Inc. became part of the TAO Community of Companies.
  • Megavia Corporation expanded its presence in Western Visayas. It was awarded the distributorship in Panay Island, including Guimaras.

2005

  • Tridharma Marketing Corporation was formed, in partnership with other parties, as a vehicle for national distribution of consumer goods for both domestic and foreign principals.

2006

  • HealthSolutions Enterprises was established as a healthcare solutions provider engaged in the supply of imported, high quality and affordable medical and laboratory disposables, devices and equipment.
  • Megavia sets up its distribution base in Mindanao when it was awarded the Southern Mindanao area covering Davao, General Santos, and Cotabato.
  • New Marketlink Pharmaceutical Corporation was acquired to import, sell, promote and distribute a diverse specialty line of pharmaceutical and healthcare products.

2007

  • TAO ventures into the fast-growing mobile communications industry with its newest subsidiary, Altus Communications, Inc., which is envisioned to become a major player in the distribution of mobile communications brand, Nokia.
  • Tridharma Marketing Corporation was appointed as the exclusive national distributor of PT Nutrifood products.
  • TAO invests in Godiva, Inc., a company that develops, manufactures and markets skin care whitening products in the Philippines. Its product line includes facial and body soaps, scrubs and lotions, astringents, creams, whitening deodorant, lip gloss, compact and refill face powder, and suncare products.

2008

  • Combrands, Incorporated was established to market and distribute local brands such as  the RTE Chicharritos Snack line.
  • TAO established I.CAN Worldwide, Inc., an easy,convenient & complete mobile payment system that allows customers to order and pay for goods & services through their mobile phones via debit from bank account, credit card or prepaid card. The I.CAN Mobile Service is accepted & approved by banking and financial institutions.
  • Chiral Pharma Corp., a fully-owned subsidiary of New Marketlink Pharmaceutical Corporation, started commercial operations. Chiral is  the investment vehicle for cardio-metabolic & women’s health categories.
2009
  • E-Pera Philippines, Inc. was acquired from Paystone (Canada) and established as a foreign remittance  business.
  • Altus was awarded a distribution contract by Philips Consumer Lifestyle Sector - Singapore for the distribution of audio, video, multi-media & connected displays.
  • Altus Communications establishes Ascend Virtus Corp. to help more people connect to Nokia.  Ascend Virtus  provides Nokia-branded stores with trade-related & marketing support, as well as innovative & non-traditional activities.
  • To enhance the livelihood of  community (sari-sari) storeowners in the TAO Community,  I.CAN Capital Lending Inc., a micro-lending business, was put up.
  • TAO infuses technology into the local  pharmaceutical industry with HealthyLife Corp., a direct-to-consumer pharmacy.
  • My.Health Corp., a new subsidiary of Marketlink, focuses on OTC pharma.
  • TAO forays into  business processing   outsourcing  services focusing on the  field  of   medicine  thru TechTouch.
  • TAO provides help to patients with sleep   disorders and  other  related illnesses with   Healthy Heart, a U-S.-based sleep clinic.
  • TAO Shipping Corporation became operational.   Its vessel, MT Anesia, delivers molasses & other   liquid commodities to various regions in the   country, and soon, to other Asian countries.
  • TAO Corporation unveils a new corporate   identity, one that   reflects a community-valuing   people  serving    to  inspireenergize others,  and driving growth by working in integration.

2010

  • TAO simplifies the Filipinos’  day-to-day life  with   SnapTech, Inc., a  GPS technology services company.
  • TAO marked  up its entry into the local  branded   generics market  via JB Orchid Pharmaceuticals,   Inc.
  • TAO forms Total Nutrition Corp., a General   Nutrition Center (GNC)   franchisee in the   Philippines.
